Walter ,

I thought when you articulated the list of companies starting with Microsoft and McDonald's that you were going to reference their industry certifications. Being of the tech world, industry exams and certifications can be worth their weight in gold and may even weigh heavily in hiring. For instance, my last employers, amazon Web services and Tableau software has both internal and external certifications. You simply can't advance internally without the internal certs. And, it was frowned upon if you didn't possess external certifications. Microsoft, Cisco, Oracle, and the non vendor specific CompTia all have respected certifications that privately certify the holder as meeting a certain level of competence. It certainly proves your point that private certifications are superior to guvmint mandates.
