I often visit North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. We have some new neighbors here. They are ruining the neighborhood. They don’t throw wild parties. They are not loud. Their kids don’t rob anyone. They never get drunk; well, not so that you would notice. The don’t carouse. But still, the long-time inhabitants of this neck of the woods do not relish their presence.
I too am a Canadian. I LOOOVE Brer Bear. But only when he is safely behind bars. Running free, he is too dangerous. My understanding is that the ancient Romans, when they wanted a fair fight in their gatherings, would put two lions against one bear. Hey, do you want lions and tigers running free in Canada? How about dinosaurs, if we could get some?
Is the plan to put every living bear in zoos? What about zoo space for every other creature with teeth and claws that seems to generate so much fear in the author and his neighbors? Bears homesteaded the land long before man arrived. Maybe less encroachment and some tolerance would help.
